From the Royal Signals to Project Management: How Redeployable Helped Rob Land a Role at Schneider Electric

Rob was still in uniform when we first caught up with him, 13 years deep into a military career, serving as a Sergeant in the Royal Signals. But big changes were ahead.

Thanks to Redeployable, he had already secured a role in project management at Schneider Electric before even stepping out of service. A proper result.

Here’s how he made the jump from military comms to managing multi-million-pound projects in the energy and sustainability sector.

Military Background: Leadership, Adaptability, and Getting Stuck In

Rob’s military career kicked off in 2011 with the Rifles, an Infantry Regiment. Eight years later, he transitioned into the Royal Corps of Signals, swapping boots on the ground for technical comms, leadership roles, and adapting to whatever challenge got thrown his way.

Deployments to Afghanistan at a young age meant he had to level up fast. By the time he reached Sergeant, he’d built a serious toolkit: leadership, crisis management, logistics, and a knack for keeping teams working under pressure.

No wonder civvie street was crying out for someone with his skills.

The Transition Realisation

A few years ago, Rob decided it was time to start thinking about life after the military. He put the feelers out and, after speaking with a friend in project management, realised just how transferable his experience was. (News flash: being good at organising chaos and managing people is a big deal outside the military.)

From there, he started getting serious about LinkedIn, networking, and figuring out what project management could actually look like as a career. The mix of structure, problem-solving, and varied opportunities ticked all the right boxes. But knowing what you want to do is only half the battle. Getting a foot in the door? That’s where Redeployable came in.

How Redeployable Made the Difference

Enter Redeployable, giving veterans a direct route into careers at Schnieder, an employer that actually values military experience.

🔹 Industry Exposure & Insider Knowledge – Through our in-house experts, Rob got a proper introduction to the energy and sustainability sector, learning how his skills applied to the industry and what working at Schneider Electric actually involved. Attending the assessment day meant he could also meet the Schneider team in person and get a feel for the work culture before even applying.

🔹 Skills & Career Analysis – Instead of staring at a list of job descriptions and hoping for the best, Redeployable’s career-matching tools helped Rob map out how his leadership, project management, and technical skills translated to the civilian job market. He got clear insights into where he’d fit best and what areas he might need to develop.

🔹 Assessment Day & Direct Employer Access – No more flinging CVs into the void. Through our employer connections, Rob got straight in front of Schneider Electric’s hiring managers at an assessment day in Leeds, where he could showcase his skills, meet the team, and get an inside look at how they work.

🔹 Structured Career Progression – This wasn’t just about landing any job, it was about building a long-term career. Schneider Electric provided a clear pathway for progression, training, and opportunities to grow, giving Rob the stability and development he was after.

Schneider’s focus on sustainability and innovation sealed the deal. Plus, their approach to work-life balance was a big win.

The Journey Into a Whole New Career

Through Redeployable’s academy, Rob secured an epic project management role at Schneider Electric.

It’s meaningful work, it’s got purpose, and - unlike the military - it doesn’t involve last-minute deployments or months away from home. Instead, he’s working on projects that range from small-scale initiatives to multi-million-pound transformations. (And yes, he finally gets to see his family on a regular basis. That’s a novelty.)

Rob’s Future at Schneider Electric

Six months in, Rob’s settled into the role and is gearing up for bigger challenges. With Schneider’s commitment to career development, he knows he’s got plenty of opportunities to grow, and the flexibility to shape his career in a way that works for him.

Rob’s Advice for Service Leavers

"If you’re thinking about leaving, it's never too early to start networking. Use platforms like LinkedIn, attend career transition workshops, and say 'yes' to opportunities, even if they seem outside your comfort zone.

Research different industries and be open to exploring new paths.

Most importantly, have a plan and execute it. Your military experience has equipped you with valuable skills, so be confident and go for it!"
