The race to reach net zero is in full swing. Back in 2008, the UK committed to hitting net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, but there's a lot of ground to cover before we get there. It means shaking up industries like energy, transportation, and agriculture, big time. We need to shift to renewable energy and make lifestyle changes to be more energy-efficient – but it's no easy task.
So, how's Carma helping us get there?
It’s all about making a positive impact on society and the environment, without breaking the bank. Carma helps to do this by planting trees all over the world.
“We make social and environmental impact both simple and affordable.” - Jim Holland, Carma CEO & Founder
Currently in the start-up phase, it’s a platform that lets you compensate for carbon emissions by planting trees. Companies can buy credits, which gives them a share in projects that combat greenhouse gases by removing carbon from the atmosphere. It means they can neutralize their emissions and minimize their impact on the environment.
Carma keeps these projects simple and affordable, meaning it’s an accessible way for smaller companies to get involved.
And guess what? It’s veteran founded.
CEO and co-founder, Jim Holland, is a former Navy Artificer. Carma commits to hiring veterans and service leavers not only because they make such a massive impact on the business, but it also means they’re provided with rewarding careers after their military service.
“And in the UK [we] employ veterans and service leavers, providing them with positive pathways to employment”
So it made sense for Jim to use Redeployable to find a Sales and Partnership manager, and that's where Kevin McCombie stepped in. Kevin's experience as an ex-aircraft maintenance technician made him a perfect match for the climate start-up.
Jim confirmed that his work ethic, skills, and teamwork have been game-changing to the business. Within three months of the vacancy going live, Kevin joined the team.
‘I wanted someone with really high standards, someone who turned up, was present, and you could rely on, and was a self-starter you could trust to get on with the work.’
We’re going to do it all over again.
Moving forward, Carma will continue to use Redeployable. Kevin has proven to be a crucial member, so it's a no-brainer to use the platform again to find more team members.
