When we chatted, Rob was still serving as a Sergeant in the Royal Signals with 13+ years of military experience. But a big change is on the horizon for Rob, as he’s recently accepted a role in project management at Schneider Electric through Redeployable's Military Training Academy.
HERE'S HIS STORY.
Rob’s military career began in 2011 in the Rifles, an Infantry Regiment. After eight years, he transitioned to the Royal Corps of Signals.
It’s safe to say Rob’s military experience fine-tuned his leadership, management, and technical skills. Plus, getting comfortable with constant change means he’s capable of adapting his skills to new challenges. Deployments to Afghanistan at a young age fast-tracked his leadership development. He climbed the ranks and gained valuable experience training new soldiers and adapting to diverse roles and locations.
He’s got a skill set to be envied on civvie street. Fact.
LEAVING THE MILITARY
A few years ago, Rob decided he was ready to start thinking about signing off. He put the feelers out, and after connecting with a project manager friend, realised that his skills were highly transferable. (news flash). Rob began investing time in LinkedIn, networking and learning more about project management. He was drawn to the variety of opportunities and the chance to leverage his military experience in a new field.
THE MILITARY HIRING ACADEMY WITH SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC
And then came along Redeployable's Military Hiring Academy.
Rob fancied the opportunity to learn about the energy and sustainability industry, and gain hands-on experience. Schneider Electric's commitment to a greener future and its innovative approach to work resonated with him. The academy's assessment day in Leeds meant candidates could actually meet with the Schneider team and experience their culture. They emphasise employee value and giving teams the recognition they deserve for hard work. It sealed the deal, and so Rob’s accepted a position.
THE JOURNEY INTO A WHOLE NEW CAREER
Through the academy, Rob secured an epic project management role at Schneider Electric. The opportunity to work on meaningful projects with a clear purpose aligned with his values and the gradual onboarding process is any service leaver's dream.
ROB’S FUTURE AT SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC
His role is a hugely exciting one. From small-scale initiatives to multi-million-pound projects, there’s a lot to get his hands dirty with.
Plus, the flexibility offered by Schneider means he gets to spend more time with his family. A big bonus for military folk used to being away from home.
ROB’S ADVICE FOR SERVICE LEAVERS
“If you’re thinking about leaving, it's never too early to start networking. Use platforms like LinkedIn, attend career transition workshops, and say 'yes' to opportunities, even if they seem outside your comfort zone.
Research different industries and be open to exploring new paths.
Most importantly, have a plan and execute it. Your military experience has equipped you with valuable skills, so be confident and go for it!” Rob Evans
