Military Spouse Employer Partnership Explained

MSEP connects military spouses with employers who have made a public commitment to recruit, hire, promote and retain them. It is the flagship part of SpouseWorks, the spouse career program that until 2025 was called SECO.

Since it started in 2011 it has grown to more than 1,000 employer partners across just about every industry.

Two ways to use it, and the second is the one spouses underuse:

  • Search the partners. The SpouseWorks job board lists openings across partner organizations, so you are applying to employers who already understand a military-connected résumé and the possibility of another move.
  • Let them find you. Opt into the candidate search in your SpouseWorks account settings and partner employers can search for you directly. That is a fundamentally different position from applying cold.

A SpouseWorks career coach can also work the job board with you, matching your qualifications against openings across the partner network.

Who is eligible?

Military spouses — of active-duty, National Guard and reserve component members across the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Space Force.

The value is not simply access to a job board. It is that these employers signed up specifically because they want military spouses, which changes how a résumé with three relocations and a gap in it gets read.

Worth pairing with two other things. The SpouseWorks Scholarship (the program most people still call MyCAA) can fund the credential a partner employer wants to see. And if another move is likely, license portability decides whether that credential travels with you.

  • Fund the credential first if you need one: The SpouseWorks Scholarship covers licenses, certifications and associate degrees up to $4,000.
  • Check portability before you train: If another move is likely, ask whether the credential transfers between states.
